Hill Country Floods

Last week, devastating floods swept through the Hill Country and parts of Central Texas, bringing overwhelming destruction and loss to our home state. My prayers remain with those who have been lost, those still missing, and every family affected by this tragedy. I also pray for comfort, strength, and protection for the emergency response teams and volunteers continuing recovery efforts. In the face of tragedy, Texans remain steadfast in our resolve to help one another and work together toward recovery. Today, I am in Kerrville, Texas with the President and the First Lady to survey the damage and speak with members of the community. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, I’ve been closely involved in overseeing the federal response to natural disasters across the nation, from Hawaii to North Carolina. In my capacity as Chairman, I will remain in close contact with local and federal officials to ensure that the Hill Country receives the fully support and federal resources necessary to rebuild. Our state is hurting, and we will continue to mourn, pray, and seek information. May God bless Texas.

Legislation of the Week

Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Spending Act
This week, the DOGE Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04), Congressman Blake Moore (UT-01), and I introduced the Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Spending Act to bring increased transparency and accountability to the U.S. Treasury. I’m proud to cosponsor this commonsense legislation that requires the Treasury to verify payments before they are made and cross-check transactions against government databases to ensure accuracy. With $162 billion in improper payments reported in Fiscal Year 2024, this is necessary legislation to protect taxpayer dollars and prevent fraud. You can read more here.
