Last week, House Republicans passed a deeply damaging budget bill that strips healthcare from 17 million Americans, slashes billions in critical food assistance, and guts the core resources our communities depend on—all to hand out massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires.

My office has received calls from many of you who have questions and, like me, are angry, frustrated, and deeply disappointed. I want to hear your concerns and answer your questions about what’s next, because this fight isn’t over.

How We're Fighting Back

I met with our local press this week to keep the conversation going about the threats our community faces from Trump’s budget bill. From healthcare and food assistance cuts to mountains of added federal debt, the impacts of this legislation will be felt by everyone, and it’s all to create tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. Keeping our communities informed is an important part of fighting back, and we’re going to keep spreading the word about this disastrous legislation.

Speaking Out Against Threats to Our Community's Healthcare

I joined fellow elected officials, representatives from Protect Our Care, and advocates from across New York State to highlight the serious threat to community healthcare Trump’s budget poses.

This bill is the largest change in healthcare access since the Affordable Care Act, but unlike the ACA, this bill takes significant steps to rip healthcare away from those who need it, rather than making it more accessible. 

I’m going to keep working with healthcare advocates to push for proactive legislation that will help protect against cuts to our healthcare systems. I’ll also continue to use every available investigative and judicial tool at my disposal to ensure accountability as we keep fighting for American families.

Continuing the Fight for Free and Fair Elections

I had the honor of visiting the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America,” at the Genesee Country Village and Museum this week. The exhibition examines the history of the United States’ experiment of a government, “of, by, and for the people.”

As the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, I oversee the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, which put on this program. I’m also using my position to continue the fight for equitable access to the ballot box for every American.

Now Accepting Internship Applications

We welcome students to both my Washington, D.C., and Rochester district offices each semester to take part in a congressional internship program. Here students will learn about the legislative process, take part in day-to-day office work, and acquire the skills needed to launch a career in public service.
