   Hi John,
Poverty should not be a crime. But some politicians are trying to make it
   one.
The Supreme Court just ruled in Grants Pass v. Johnson that cities can
fine or jail people simply for sleeping outside, even when they have
nowhere else to go. This decision is cruel, dangerous, and deeply out of
   step with our values.
That’s why I just introduced new legislation with Rep. Maxwell Frost to
block the federal government from funding efforts to criminalize
homelessness. Our bill also puts real solutions like housing and mental
health services back at the center of our response to poverty.
Instead of investing in housing, care, and services, Republicans are
trying to punish people for being poor. That’s not just morally bankrupt.
It’s a recipe for more suffering.
Our bill would change that, and we need your voice behind it.

We can’t let the GOP turn homelessness into a crime. This is our moment to
fight back with compassion and uphold the dignity of every human being.
   In solidarity,
