Last week, President Trump and Congressional Republicans celebrated stealing healthcare and food assistance from millions of Americans to benefit billionaires. President Trump promised not to touch Medicaid, but instead he signed into law a bill that cuts Medicaid by $1 trillion.

I led a townhall on President Trump's Big, Ugly Betrayal with Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Representatives Troy Carter, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Nanette Barragan in New Orleans on Thursday. You can watch the recorded townhall here.

Register for Hyde Park Passport Day

There is one Passport Day left this July for anyone to come and apply for a NEW passport. You can register for Passport Day in Hyde Park. 

Make sure to bring the following items with you:

• Completed passport application (here)
• 2 passport photos (2’’ x 2’’, guide to photos)
• Original birth certificate with seal (acceptable forms)
• A valid photo ID (acceptable forms)

Shame on House Republicans

On July 3, House Republicans bent the knee to President Trump and passed the Big, Ugly Bill. After holding the vote open for more than 7 hours — the longest in US House history — House Republicans passed the bill without regard for the catastrophic consequences. More than 17 million Americans will lose healthcare, including nearly half a million Illinoisans and almost 40,000 people in the Second District. Hospitals will close. Children without food assistance will go hungry.

As I travel throughout the state to warn folks of this dangerous law, I will continue to fight in Congress to protect your access to healthcare, SNAP, and safety in our communities. Everybody deserves to live in a country that protects and values them.
