Stats for Stories: World Population Day

World Population Day has been observed on July 11 every year since 1990. The World Population Clock [ [link removed] ] provides an estimate of the global population at a given moment as well as an indication of how fast it is growing.

The Census Bureau estimates the number of people in the world population by combining past population growth statistics with data for individual countries and areas from the International Database [ [link removed] ] (IDB).

The world population reached 8 billion in 2023. It is projected to reach 8.1 billion this year, 9 billion in 2038, 10 billion in 2057 and peak at 10.9 billion in 2098 before declining, according to IDB projections.
