Because of Trump’s cuts to health care, Californians who get their health
insurance through Covered California will pay an average of $101 more per
month beginning next year.

Let me break it down for you: Covered California is our state’s Affordable
Care Act marketplace. Millions of Californians purchase health care
through it. The federal government normally invests in the program, so
that people are able to afford care.

But now, all enrollees will see an increase in their monthly premium
payment, with an average of $101 more per person beginning in January
2026. What’s worse, the people with the lowest incomes will see the
biggest increase in monthly premiums. Californians who make less than
$61,000 per year are projected to pay $191 more per month.

And just to be cruel and pay for tax breaks for billionaires—Republicans
also made changes to eliminate automatic renewals of your health insurance
and are limiting special enrollment periods. This just makes it more
difficult for busy, working people to get care.

Covered California expects that these higher costs and added enrollment
barriers will force 600,000 Californians to lose the coverage they
currently have. And this doesn’t even include the cuts to Medicaid, which
I’ll talk about in another email.

These healthcare cuts that were part of Republicans’ big bill mean higher
costs for Californians. People will get sicker when they can’t afford
care. Families will face debt as medical bills pile up.
