JOHN — something genuinely terrifying is happening at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
DOGE took a chainsaw to the VA, and that’s no secret. But most people don’t know how deep the damage goes. Some of the worst of it has to do with their implementation of untested, unproven, and unsafe artificial intelligence programs.
AI is screening everything from contracts to claims for disability. At best, this AI screening is cancelling contracts that are vital to the operations of the VA. At worst, it’s rejecting valid claims from Veterans who served this country and came home with wounds, injuries, and conditions related to their service.
This is how Trump, Collins, and DOGE want the VA to work — nameless, faceless algorithms using the same techniques as exploitative private health insurance companies to deny care to people who need and deserve it. That’s how they’re closing the capacity gaps as they continue to reduce 30,000 staff by September.
It’s outrageous and it has to stop.
