John,
This week, Donald Trump said that I “hate this country.”

I could not love our country more — and that is exactly why I stepped up with California Senator Alex Padilla to introduce the VISIBLE Act.
Over the last few months, Americans have watched plainclothes, masked federal agents with no visible ID detain people off the streets because of Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
It’s created fear in our communities and escalated tensions while they’re already sky-high. It shields rogue officers from accountability. Most importantly, it hasn’t made anyone safer.
That’s why I recently introduced a bill alongside Alex Padilla to require ICE and DHS agents to wear identifiable badges and conduct their duties unmasked.
It’s just common sense. It’s the right thing to do.
We introduced this bill because we love our country. We love our democracy. And in democracies, people do not get taken off the streets without any due process or transparency.
With love and gratitude, for you and for our country,
Cory
