Dear neighbor,

Last week, Republicans passed their Big Ugly Bill, which will rip health care away from millions of Americans. The President signed the bill on Independence Day at the White House. In a moment that perfectly incapsulates the current state of our government, Speaker Johnson personally handed President Trump his gavel that was used during the passage of the bill.

The Republican-controlled Congress has taken a back seat to Donald Trump, mindlessly following along with his harmful agenda and ignoring the clear fact that millions of Americans will be hurt. (It also took place on the day that we’re supposed to celebrate our independence from kings.)

Republicans are now going to do everything they can to distract you from what they did. They voted to make life more expensive and difficult for the American people – increasing health care, food, and utility bills for millions of Americans.

I will continue to speak out about the Big Ugly Bill because Republicans now own the consequences, and we can’t let them forget that. Not even four of them could stand up and do the right thing for the American people. We have to keep pushing on and fighting back. With the American people and public sentiment on our side, we will prevail.

On Wednesday, I talked about how Californians would benefit from my bill, the Stop Hate Crimes Act. The bill would update federal law to allow prosecutors to properly pursue hate crime charges against individuals who commit a crime based on race, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics. During this interview, I also discussed the Trump Administration’s ongoing mass racial profiling in Southern California and across the country. I will never stop fighting back against this Administration’s cruel and illegal actions.
