Hi Friend,
Today is World Population Day!
The United Nations commemorated the first World Population Day [[link removed]] on July 11, 1990. World Population Day has been observed every year since then to increase public awareness of global population challenges. In November 2022, our global population surpassed the 8 billion mark, and we are projected to hit 9 billion in 2036.
Rapid population growth heightens social, economic, and environmental challenges. Resource depletion, climate change, and strain on infrastructure, especially in developing countries, are all significant issues. All of this adds up to real threats to the survival and well-being of humans and hundreds of thousands of other species on this planet.
Read on below for a few resources that highlight why recognizing this day remains important, and what we're doing to reach global population stabilization, thanks to the help of members and supporters like you!
