This really isn’t complicated: When you work for the government, you work for the people. Not yourself. Not your billionaire friends.

But apparently, not everyone in Washington got that memo.

To be completely honest, I’m not the least bit surprised by the corruption and self-dealing of the Trump administration and National Republicans. It’s exactly what we all expected. What is shocking is just how little they’ve bothered to hide it.

We’ve seen members of Congress dump Medicaid-related stocks just days before gutting the program. And we’ve watched Trump himself direct massive sums of taxpayer money to his own properties and even pardon corporate executives convicted of financial crimes.

With this much corruption out in the open, it’s no wonder why trust in government is at an all-time low. But with some common-sense policies, we can change that.

We can ban individual stock trading by members of Congress and ensure that no one is able to personally profit off non-public information. We can expand conflict of interest laws and hinder the power of big corporations. We can end the dominance of big money in politics.

Public service is a privilege and a responsibility like no other. And it’s unfortunate that far too many of my colleagues are willing to cash out on that privilege. But no matter how many people stand in my way — including the President himself — I will never stop fighting to make our government more transparent and accountable to the American people.

Next year, we have an opportunity to change our government for the better — as long as we put in the work. So will you join me in that work by chipping in today? National Republicans have already set their sights on this competitive seat, and we NEED to win right here if we want to flip the House blue and restore trust in Washington.
