CALIFORNIA SECRETARY OF STATE DR. SHIRLEY WEBER ENDORSES FIONA MA FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
SACRAMENTO – California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber today endorsed State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA in her bid to become Lieutenant Governor.
"Fiona Ma is a long-time champion of economic development and job creation, a skill our state needs more than ever. I am proud to endorse her to be California’s next Lieutenant Governor so she can continue our progress as the fourth largest economy in the world,” said Weber. “Part of my duties as Secretary of State is to oversee business filings and make it easier for small businesses to operate in California, so I know first-hand about Fiona Ma’s commitment to promote jobs and economic security. As a former member of the Assembly, I also know that she shares my commitment to protecting voting rights and social justice, and will continue to lead as our next Lieutenant Governor.”
“I am particularly proud to receive the endorsement of Dr. Weber because of her long-standing leadership on the key challenges facing our state,” said Ma. “I look forward to continuing to work with her to move California forward.”
Dr. Weber made history as California’s first Black Secretary of State. She was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom and elected for a full term in 2022. She is a national leader in protecting and expanding voter rights. Before her appointment, Secretary Weber served four terms as an Assembly Member representing California's 79th Assembly District, which includes parts of the City of San Diego as well as several cities and communities in the San Diego region.
Dr. Weber’s endorsement is in the wake of recent endorsements by more than 40 members of the California legislature and dozens of mayors across the state for Ma.
