Dear John,

Over the last few weeks, we have shared our journey in South Sudan and the struggles families face due to flooding. This week, I want to turn your attention to Malawi, a country hardest hit by severe droughts. Malawi’s rainy season has begun, yet the rains haven’t. Drought has been declared, and the country is facing the worst food shortages in decades. Refugees and people forced to flee are among the hardest hit.

We need to act now, and we need your help. Please donate today. Your support could provide people with emergency food and clean water.

Mabintu Pascasie is a Congolese refugee who has been living in Malawi for 10 years. As a widow with three children to support, she is incredibly worried about keeping her children fed.

“In Malawi, the prices keep on changing every month. Prices have skyrocketed. The price of maize has gone up, charcoal has gone up.”

“I am so hungry, even as I talk to you. I have nothing at all in my house. I am a widow, and I have no one to look after me.”

Please help people like Mabintu. Hunger and malnutrition are soaring in Malawi, but your donation can bring a lifeline.

Thank you,

Joshua Werema

P.S. UNHCR works with refugees and people forced to flee in emergencies - but we don’t stop there. As well as providing emergency food and water in droughts, we are also helping to build irrigation systems and drought-resistant seeds in order to grow crops, and help prevent future hunger crises. Your monthly donation can support this important work - please give today.
