Dear John,

In April, President Trump imposed a 90 day pause on his extreme set of global tariffs. But that pause is almost up, and Minnesotans are feeling the squeeze. Nationally, the overall tariff rate currently sits at 17.4% – that’s the highest it’s been since 1934.

Using targeted tariffs as a strategic tool is one thing. But that’s not happening. This Administration is announcing tariffs one day and pausing them the next. Instead of considering the long-term impact of these policies, the President is just shooting-from-the-hip and pushing disastrous trade policy without any rhyme or reason.

And for what? To use our country’s economy as a political football.

At the end of the day, it’s the American people who will bear the cost of the President’s trade war. President Trump promised to lower the cost of living and make life more affordable. But instead, he is making it harder for families to put food on the table and for businesses to stay profitable.

Despite this Administration’s repeated attacks on the middle class, I’m fighting for the hardworking Minnesotans who power our economy. I’ve even got a bill to cut taxes for small business owners and put more money back into the pockets of middle-class Minnesotans.

These are the types of common-sense, forward-thinking policies we have to be implementing, and I’m working to get them signed into law.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to:

Supporting manufacturing in Minnesota

It was great to visit Stampings of Minnesota this week – a woman and minority-owned metal stamping company in Lakeville.

It’s home-grown manufacturing and craftsmanship like this that strengthens our economy, grows local job markets and makes Minnesota great.

Honoring our community leaders

It was an honor to present Ann Bailey with a Congressional Record Insert as she retires from her position as President of DARTS.

Ann’s dedication to bettering the lives of seniors in Dakota County has been nothing short of extraordinary. Ann – I wish you the very best in this next chapter!

Behind the Scenes

This week, my DC staff met with America’s Vet Dogs while I was in Minnesota. One of the meeting attendees, a service dog named Kathy, took some time to greet my staff after the meeting. My office is full of dog lovers, so it’s safe to say – she was the most popular visitor of the week!
