Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
Y’all gotta cool it down, heated
When we said we wanted to sweat this summer, we meant while shaking our ass at the Cowboy Carter tour, not while walking 1000 feet from the office to the parking lot.
This summer we’re seeing record-breaking heat waves across the country. Is anyone else getting deja vu? Because I think we’ve read that sentence before.
But despite our planet getting hotter than when you try to play The Sims on your seven-year-old MacBook, we still lack important protections that protect us from extreme heat. A rule proposed by the Biden Administration would have established OSHA’s first-ever heat rule to protect workers from extreme heat — mandating accessible drinking water to workers, enforcing mandatory rest breaks, and more. But under the Trump administration, the rule’s future is uncertain.
We find that a bipartisan majority (87%) of voters support the proposed OSHA rule that would protect workers from extreme heat.

Voters also agree that it’s time to crack down on the types of landlords who think that the best way to solve any problem is by throwing white paint on it. A strong majority (76%) of voters support requiring landlords to provide air conditioning or indoor cooling to renters, including 82% of Democrats, 74% of Independents, and 71% of Republicans. Pretty cool!

Call us the Power Rangers
Just like you really can’t have Sex and the City without Samantha… you can’t have a clean energy transition without building out your transmission infrastructure.
The U.S. needs to significantly expand its transmission infrastructure to meet growing electricity demand, enhance grid reliability, and connect renewable energy sources in the coming decades — and because all you dummies can’t stop asking ChatGPT to turn your cat into a Studio Ghibli character.
In a new report in collaboration with researchers from the World Resources Institute and the Great Plains Institute, our researchers lay out recommendations for incorporating community engagement and feedback in transmission projects. A few pointers from the report: consult with communities, talk to impacted landowners, and deliver benefits early and collaboratively. Make it your next beach read!
