Dear Friend,
Last week was a tough one. 17 million people are going to lose their healthcare due to Trump’s damaging domestic policy. [1] We may be feeling fury in our hearts, but there is hope in our souls. The full harm caused by the Republicans passing the Big Bad Betrayal Bill may be uncertain, but there are a few things we know for sure: a brighter future is possible and that together, we are powerful.
A lot of us are wondering: What do we do next? Let’s make some Good Trouble together.
We’re working with partners across the nation to organize a powerful day of action in honor of the late Congressman John Lewis, who regularly spoke of the power and importance of “Good Trouble”—and we’d love for you to be part of it. Can you join hundreds of thousands of people across the country in making Good Trouble and taking action on July 17th? RSVP to an activation near you.
Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the act of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change. Good Trouble is marches, protests, service work—any action where communities come together and take a stand against hate.
The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17th, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, we’re calling on Americans across the country to Make Good Trouble Together.
Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks posed on our democracy, civil rights, and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
This will be a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action and organizing, rooted in the tradition of the civil rights movement—but built for today’s challenges. On July 17th, communities across the country will come together in the streets, at courthouses, and in community spaces to raise our voices, stand together, and carry forward John Lewis' mission for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all. These actions may include:
This is not a day of quiet reflection—it is a day of courage and collective action, just as John Lewis modeled throughout his life.
The same forces that used violence against John Lewis and civil rights leaders for marching for justice on the Edmund Pettus Bridge are back, with billionaire backers, extremist leaders, and authoritarian ambition whose destructive agenda has already lead to:
We are not spectators to history. We are the makers of it.
Together, we can push back against the Trump administration and realize a democracy that works for us. When we fight, we win. When we stand together, we rise.
Let’s make some Good Trouble together.
With gratitude and persistence,
- Kristin, Olivia, Lauren, Monifa, Donna, Xochitl, Ruth, Sue Anne, and the whole MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team
