John,

It has been over three decades since the Jewish community of Buenos Aires was targeted in what is still the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentina’s history. On this solemn anniversary, I invite you to join me for a special virtual event:

31 Years After AMIA: The Islamic Republic’s Long Shadow of Terror
📆 Friday, July 18 at 11 AM ET

I was a teenager sitting in history class when just a few kilometres away, over 600 pounds of explosives tore through the AMIA Jewish Community Centre, injuring hundreds and killing 85 people, including three of my friends—Viviana, Cristian and Guillermo.

To this day, the perpetrators—the Iranian regime and its proxy Hezbollah—have never been held accountable.

Join me for an important conversation to reflect on the impact of this horrific event and the enduring threat of Iranian-backed terrorism globally—and here in Canada —with special guests:

  • The Honourable Irwin Cotler, Canada’s former Minister of Justice, whose decades of advocacy for human rights and justice recently made him the target of an Iranian-backed assassination plot.
  • The Honourable John Baird, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who led Canada’s efforts to isolate the Iranian regime and shutter its embassy in Ottawa.
  • Her Excellency Josefina Martinez Gramuglia, Argentina’s Ambassador to Canada, representing a country that continues to pursue justice for the AMIA attack (TBC).

The threat posed by the Iranian regime is not theoretical. It has real and painful consequences. And because we have memory, we demand justice.

I hope you can take the time to join us next Friday.

Shabbat Shalom,

Nico Slobinsky
