Did We Just Agree with Ryan Walters⁉️

Great news everyone!

State Superintendent Ryan Walters has joined the fight against student hunger!

Oklahoma's Democrats at the State Legislature have been working to alleviate student hunger for years. [[link removed]]

And after years of Governor Stitt turning down federal dollars meant to feed hungry students during the summer, Walters stood up and took the bold stance that no child should go hungry.

Just kidding, that's just what the wannabe talk show host wants you to think.

Walters hasn't actually done anything to put food in front of students.

Instead, he's issued empty and illegal threats to amplify a rightwing fever dream.

First, in Oklahoma administrative costs are already capped under state law -- so the type of bloat Walters is fearmongering against doesn't even exist.

Secondly, his unfunded mandate doesn't do a single thing to help schools meet the goal of feeding every student at no cost.

Finally, instead of setting a priority and working with our schools to eliminate student hunger, he's making an empty threat.

The deadline for school districts to finalize their budgets, by state law, was June 30th. Districts can't submit reworked budgets.

And Walters' threat to take away accreditation, in addition to hurting our schools, doesn't seem likely now that he's trapped in a room with board members who don't trust a single thing he says... [[link removed]]

Here's what our new Chair, Representative John Waldron, who has actually sponsored legislation that would get schools the resources needed to feed hungry kids, said about the latest publicity stunt.

Oklahomans deserve leaders who are willing to take child hunger seriously, not turn it into a self promotional talking point for a week and then drop it.

Like everything else Ryan Walters says, he only believes it while he's saying it. He's already moving on to another self created controversy!

Oklahoma's students deserve better than Ryan Walters.
