Dear Friend,
We've mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating a thousand times. State lawmakers are PART-TIME but our state freedom caucuses are FULL-TIME. That means when their legislative sessions are over, they are still working for you - the taxpayer - regardless of what the issue is. Here's the latest news... |
MISSOURI
The Missouri Freedom Caucus has been a loud advocate for ending the state income tax. So MOFC Chairman, State Senator Nick Schorer, decided to have a little fun this week trolling Republican Governor Mike Kehoe on the subject. Kehoe frequently repeats that he “wants” to eliminate the income tax, but so far the governor has failed to put his full weight behind it.
In fairness to Kehoe, he did sign a bill this week that will end state capital gains taxes, which all MO Freedom Caucus members supported. All states that have an income tax also tax capital gains, so Missouri is now the first state to do away with the practice. With that successfully out of the way, it's time to get rid of the income tax! |
WYOMING The legislative session ended way back on March 6, but the Wyoming Freedom Caucus isn't waiting another 6 months for the January 2026 session to resume fighting for taxpayers.
The Audit Committee is something that, in the past, was considered a joke because nobody ever did anything with it. But the Committee's power to root out waste and fraud is now being utilized by the Wyoming Freedom Caucus. Earlier this week, they led the fight to subpoena two counties and one special district because slow progress on audits suggests serious financial mismanagement. Excerpt from a recent news article:
“I’m deeply disturbed by some of these audits we have been provided,” said Rodriguez-Williams. “It’s absolutely, I’ll say it again, mind-boggling when you have a state-funded town, or entity such as the recreation district that receives state funds, giving the Department of Audit and the legislative body, essentially the middle finger.”
The Swamp is on its heels. They can't defend the financial mismanagement (or possible fraud), so instead they are upset with the WY Freedom Caucus because...well, they should have "invited" the town leaders to address these concerns, and not use the power of the subpoena. But this is a serious problem and it requires a serious answer. Stay tuned as this story develops... |
PENNSYLVANIA
It's been a busy couple of weeks for State Rep. Barb Gleim and the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus. Because of Gleim's hard work on advocating for protecting girls' sports, she was invited to the White House last week. Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon used the opportunity to announce that the University of Pennsylvania had agreed to settle a federal lawsuit. Going forward, UPenn will follow President Trump's executive order to keep biological men out of female sports and they will issue a formal apology to all of the female athletes, including Riley Gaines, who were impacted by it.
If that wasn't enough good news, the PA Freedom Caucus pushed the fight in the state legislature where Democrats control the State House by a slim 102-101 margin. Earlier this week, the PA Freedom Caucus "discharged" the "Save Women's Sports Act" (SB 9) onto the House floor - effectively forcing the Democrats to consider the bill.
The Democrats - who are scared to death to vote on this common sense issue - used a procedural gimmick to refer the bill back to another committee. Effectively trying to stall the issue. But the PA Freedom Caucus isn't letting up and will continue to force it onto the floor for an up-or-down vote. Key excerpt from the PA Freedom Caucus:
It is with profound disgust that we address the recent decision by House Democrats to re-refer Senate Bill 9 to a different committee. This action represents not only a bureaucratic maneuver which stifled debate and silenced millions of Pennsylvanians, but also a significant setback in the pursuit of equality for countless girls across Pennsylvania. By avoiding the vote, House Democrats have delayed progress, promoted discrimination, and made it very clear that they intend to usurp Federal Title IX law in their pursuit of a woke agenda that 80% of Americans wholeheartedly reject.
