Good morning!
I hope you all enjoyed a safe and relaxing holiday weekend. I appreciated the opportunity to spend time with my friends and family as we watched fireworks. Even better, I hope that you were able to celebrate the gift of freedom that Independence Day symbolizes.
In other news, I have been busy these last few weeks, attending in-district meetings and events now that we have wrapped up business at the Capitol. It is always great to reconnect with folks that I haven't seen as often!
Walz Legal Fees
Back in St. Paul, we received word this week that Governor Tim Walz racked up $430,000 in legal fees after hiring outside counsel to prepare for his testimony in Washington, D.C. He was called to testify before a congressional committee investigating Minnesota’s response to the Feeding Our Future scandal.
Above is a made-up GoFundMe page to pay for Walz's legal aid. There is no reason this financial burden should fall on the backs of Minnesota taxpayers.
Instead of relying on the state’s Attorney General or in-house legal staff, Walz brought in private attorneys at taxpayer expense. The move has raised serious questions about transparency, fiscal responsibility, and what exactly required such an expensive legal team. Rep Harry Niska raised these questions very well, which you can read below.
It is clear that Walz has his eyes more on the 2028 Presidential election rather than the state of Minnesota. We deserve better.
