Everywhere I go — from Del Mar to Dana Point — I hear the same thing from families, young professionals, and seniors: Southern California has become unaffordable.
The dream of raising a family, buying a home, and retiring here is slipping away — not because people aren’t working hard, but because the system is broken. This is a California crisis.
In San Diego County, the median home price just crossed $1,040,000. In Orange County, it's nearly the same at $1,008,000. Rents for a one-bedroom are pushing $2,500/month. Gas prices hover around $4.64/gallon, food prices are up nearly 4% year-over-year, and utility costs continue to climb.
Meanwhile, young families trying to purchase their first home are being crushed. A family needs to earn over $218,000/year just to afford a median home in Orange County. And seniors who have worked their entire lives are being forced out of the communities they've called home for decades.
This must change — and Congress must lead.
Here’s what I’ll fight for:
* First-Time Homebuyer Assistance: Expand federal down payment assistance and provide real tax relief to help young families enter the housing market.
* Cut Red Tape: Incentivize local governments to reduce burdensome regulations that delay construction and drive up housing costs.
*
Protect Seniors: Ensure seniors aren’t taxed or regulated out of their homes and can retire with dignity in the communities they built.
* Tackle Inflation: Stop reckless federal spending that fuels the inflation crushing working families every day.
*
Energy Affordability: Reverse the extreme mandates driving up energy costs and allow for an all-of-the-above energy approach.
This isn’t about political posturing. It’s about restoring the American Dream right here in Southern California — so that our children can raise their families here, and our parents can stay close to their grandchildren.
Mike Levin has been in Washington for seven years — and every year the cost of living has gotten worse. While politicians argue, families suffer.
I won’t go to Congress to join the noise — I’ll go to fight for solutions.
But to win this fight, I need your help. We are building a campaign to finally give Southern California a voice in Washington that puts common sense and affordability ahead of politics.
How you can help.
