Last week we shared the heartbreaking news that baby formula had run out in Gaza and newborns were starving to death as a result.
Now, we have another tragic update: Fuel supplies will run out by morning.
Fuel is necessary to power generators, which power everything: Refrigerators for blood banks, incubators in the NICU, water treatment facilities, ambulances, distribution trucks, and more.
Without electricity and water, the health and lives of women, girls, and newborns are at risk.
At Al Shifa Hospital, doctors are performing surgeries, including c-sections, without electricity. Hospital staff are rationing fuel by putting as many NICU babies as they can in each incubator and by shutting down dialysis treatment.
But if fuel runs out, hundreds of babies surviving in incubators along with hospital patients across Gaza are at serious risk of death.
You can help deliver lifesaving care in Gaza, including fuel, incubators, surgical tools, and essential medicines for pregnancy and childbirth. Before time runs out, will you rush a gift to continue providing care in Gaza and wherever help is needed most?

Al Shifa Hospital after an attack in April 2024
The healthcare system in Gaza is on its knees.
In addition to fuel shortages threatening care, there have been more than 600 attacks on health facilities since the conflict began in October 2023. In fact, Al Shifa was severely damaged just last year.
But with contributions from supporters like you, our teams have adapted to continue meeting the needs of women and girls:
- We have set up medical tents at damaged hospitals and health facilities, so that when women and girls show up in need of care, they are not turned away.
- We have deployed 6 mobile maternity units staffed by specialized health workers to meet women and girls who have been cut off from care by conflict or evacuation orders.
- There are hundreds of UNFPA midwives and health teams working in temporary shelters to meet the needs of displaced women and girls.
- We are working with UN partners to rebuild maternity wards and primary care centers that have been destroyed.
Your support for women and girls is vital during this time.
Please, if you’re able, will you rush a gift to provide lifesaving sexual and reproductive health services in Gaza and beyond before time runs out for women and girls?

Babies in an incubator in Gaza
We condemn the violence in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, and hope for a sustained humanitarian ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas, and an end to the violence. The suffering must end and peace must prevail.
Thank you for being there,
