Since Trump was elected the first time in 2016, political pundits have talked at length about whether Democrats should focus more on pocketbook issues or on opposing Trump.
I reject this false choice, because these are actually the same set of issues.
I’ve always said that voters from the left, right, and middle can all agree: we want life to be more affordable! And right now, Trump and Republicans are making life more expensive for all of us. They’re raising the cost of healthcare with their ‘big bill.’ They’re threatening our economy, jobs, and prices, with tariff drama. And they’re not even thinking about addressing families’ biggest cost—housing—because they’re giving special perks to Big Oil companies and billionaires.
It is a false choice that we have to decide between standing up to Trump’s extremism and making life more affordable for families. Democrats can’t do one without doing the other.
I’m running for governor because our party needs its strongest economic messengers leading the fight against Trump, and California needs a fearless leader fighting back against Trump when he threatens our pocket books AND when he threatens our civil liberties, our immigrant communities, and LGBTQ+ Californians.
I can’t get elected without you. Will you chip in $5 to my campaign today?
Onward,
Katie
