As we reflect on the last session, we see that our elected officials worked on some wonderful bills that will improve our community and state. We heard directly from them at various meetings, but since there were so many accomplishments, we haven’t heard them all. Below are some that you may or may not know about…
Senator Gayle Harrell
+ Children with Developmental Disabilities – Signed by the Governor on May 27th
* Expands and coordinates state efforts for children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities.
+ Children’s Medical Services Program – Signed by the Governor on May 23rd
* Improves care for children with special health care needs and ensures program quality and outcomes.
Representative John Snyder
+ Charter Schools – Signed by the Governor on May 30th
o Grants charter schools increased administrative and regulatory flexibility, including the first right of refusal for acquiring school district properties, enhancing their operational autonomy.
+ State Land Management-Signed by the Governor on May 22nd
* Prohibits the construction of golf courses, resorts, and similar developments in Florida's state parks, ensuring their preservation for conservation and public enjoyment.

+ Amendments to the State Constitution – Signed by the Governor on May 2nd
* Introduce stricter procedural steps for citizen-initiated constitutional amendments.
* Israeli Bonds – Signed by the Governor on June 23rd
+ Enables Florida institutions to purchase Israeli Bonds as part of the state back investment portfolios.

* Recognizes gold and silver as legal tender in Florida, alongside US currency.

* Allows public schools to help children experiencing severe hypoglycemia.

* Expands Florida’s firefighter safety laws
* Adds diseases such as cancer to the traditional risks such as line-of-duty death and injury.

* It strengthens penalties and enforcement measures against aggravated cruelty to animals.
+ Designation of the Gulf of Mexico – Signed by the Governor on April 14th
* Aligns Florida statutes with the recent federal designation of “Gulf of America” through President Trump’s Executive Order.
