Hi John,
Healthcare shouldn’t be a privilege. It should be a promise.
I’ve seen what it means to fight for care. My daughter Brooke was born with a rare neurological disorder called Rett Syndrome. For the five short years we had with her, our lives were shaped by specialists, therapies, equipment, and constant battles with insurance. We were lucky—we had coverage and support. But even with all that, it was a fight.
Now, over 322,000 Virginians are at risk of losing that same access to care.
The federal government is moving forward with devastating cuts to Medicaid, and they’ve done it in a way that leaves states like ours to clean up the mess. For years, the federal government covered more than half the cost of Medicaid. Now, Virginia is being forced to make impossible choices with far less support.
The result? Our most vulnerable neighbors could be left without care.
Six or more rural hospitals may be forced to shut their doors—four of them within 1-2 hours of our homes. Families may be left scrambling to find treatment, specialists, or simply a place to go in an emergency.
This isn't an abstract policy. It’s real people. It’s families like ours. And we need representation in the General Assembly that will fight to take up the slack left by the federal government.
When I get to Richmond, I’ll fight for affordable, accessible healthcare for all Virginians. That means protecting Medicaid expansion, defending rural care access, and making sure no parent has to choose between getting care and paying rent.
