Governor Abbott Adds Women’s Privacy Rights to the Special Session!

Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott released a list of additional issues to be addressed in the Special Session that begins July 21, 2025. The issue of “Protect Women’s Spaces” has been added to the Special Session Call.

This brings us one step closer to fully protecting women and girls in the state of Texas in their private spaces, locker rooms, prisons, and shelters.

We were extremely close to getting The Texas Women’s Privacy Act passed in the Regular Session. Many parents, citizens, female athletes, and community leaders showed up in strong numbers to testify for and support Senate Bill 240.

Having clear laws that protect the dignity, respect, and safety of both women and men is necessary.

We are thankful that Governor Abbott has made this a priority for the special session he has called.

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:

"Now is the time to act. Protecting women’s privacy was unfinished business in the regular session. A number of states already have laws with very specific language that men do not belong in women’s locker rooms, shelters, and prisons. Protecting women’s dignity and safety is a top priority for Texas.”

Your Texas Values team will be leading the way on women’s privacy during the Special Session. We are unique in that we did not leave and go back to another part of the state (or even a different state) once session ended on June 2. We have been communicating, with the help of many friends and partner organizations, that we wanted the Women’s Privacy Act to be added in a special session. In order to make this Special Session successful, we need your continued financial support so we can show up every day at the Capitol. Consider making a tax deductible donation today!
