Dear Independent Film Family,
The Senate is expected to vote any day now on the rescission package that would pull back funding for CPB. Today, Senator Dick Durbin (IL) urgently spoke out in support of public media.
“With this rescissions request, small towns and rural communities are going to get hit again and [are] set to lose their only access to trusted, local media. These cuts could irreparably harm communities across America who count on public media for 24/7 news, music, educational programming, and emergency alert services.”
I want to make one more plea for all of us to reach out to our elected officials and make our voices heard. We are fighting not just for independent media, but for the rule of law to prevail, for our constitution to be respected and for the power of public media to belong to the people. It is hard to convey the importance of this issue and how urgent it is to act.
At American Documentary | POV, we are committed to supporting independent film and independent voices across the country and to bringing the world to the American public, a commitment we have shared with PBS and all of our partners in public media for almost 40 years.
As a child of a strong civil rights leader and an active figure in the public media space, I know how important this is. And I know that no matter what happens, the fight continues. But it doesn’t rest on a single voice or movement, it depends on all of us working together.
Please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to go to Protect My Public Media and call their representatives, sign the petition, and stand up for their rights.
What we don't do today may not be available tomorrow.
In Solidarity,
Erika Dilday
