John,

Last week, Congress passed a “Big, Ugly Bill” that’s a direct attack on rural America. It hands out massive tax breaks to the wealthy while stripping healthcare from millions of Americans and closing rural hospitals. I have been very outspoken about this bill, and for good reason: it will be detrimental to Kentucky and rural America. Here’s just some of what we can expect from this disastrous bill in my state alone:

– 200,000 Kentuckians will be kicked off Medicaid and lose their health insurance
– 35 rural hospitals will close due to loss in funding
– 20,000 healthcare workers will lose their job due to these hospital closures

What’s more? By cutting crucial programs that Kentuckians rely on, like food assistance, Congress is putting the burden on states to cover hundreds of millions of dollars in new costs. Every governor has to balance their state’s budget; no state has hundreds of millions in the couch cushions to pay for these devastating cuts.

You don’t have to look very long at these numbers to understand why I’ve fought so hard to push Congress to vote no on this bill.

But it’s more than just these numbers that will be impacted by this bill. Our workforce will become less productive, as workers will have to take time off to drive hours to the nearest doctor when they are sick. Our families will become overburdened, having to become full-time care workers on top of already demanding jobs because they had to take in their sick relatives who lost their care. Our small businesses will suffer, as Kentuckians have to pinch pennies even more after losing their job.

This bill is going to hit rural America hard, and every Republican who voted for this bill knows it. I’m calling on these leaders to take a step back, and reexamine the pledge they made when they took the Oath of Office. I want them to be reminded that leadership isn’t defined by how fast you fall in line with your party, but how hard you fight back for the people you were elected to serve.

ADD YOUR NAME TODAY: Demand Republican leaders in Congress, and across the country, serve their constituents and not their party. It’s time to end the partnership and do what’s right for the American people >> [link removed]

Thank you for standing with me,

Andy
