# [#]John,
In just one year, our beloved city will take center stage as we celebrate the Semiquincentennial, 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence , right here in Philadelphia.
This is more than just a birthday. It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for all of us, Philadelphians and Americans alike, to reflect on our nation’s roots, reaffirm our shared values of liberty and equality, and imagine the next 250 years of progress and possibility.
In 1776, inside what we now know as Independence Hall, courageous visionaries signed a declaration that reshaped the world. That moment happened in our very own city and defined who we are as a country and what we strive to become.
As Council President, I am proud that Philadelphia will host this historic celebration in 2026. Let us come together to show the world what makes Philadelphia the birthplace not just of American democracy, but of resilience, culture, and unity.
In service,
City Council President Kenyatta Johnson
