Dear Friend,

It's summertime, life's a little slower, and school's out. That means it's a great time to get out, rediscover your neighborhood, and try something new.

Join me for this year's Ward 6 Week <[link removed]>from Sunday, July 27, through Saturday, Aug. 2 - a week of fun, free activities highlighting all our community has to offer.

We love calling Ward 6 home every day, but Ward 6 Week is a chance to celebrate all week long! Explore the calendar of events below – some have limited availability, so it's best to jump on it and RSVP now. And if you RSVP and it ends up that you can't attend, just email us <mailto:[email protected]>, and we'll make sure your spot can go to another neighbor.

Sunday, July 27

- Pop-Up at the Spray Park and Playground <[link removed]>: 10 to 11 a.m. at Eastern Market Metro Park (800 Pennsylvania Ave. SE)
Come splash around and say hi to Charles and our team.

- LGBTQ+ Cemetery Tour <[link removed]>: 1 p.m. at the Congressional Cemetery (1801 E St. SE)
Did you know that the Congressional Cemetery in Hill East is believed to be one of the only cemeteries in the world to have an LGBT section, first established in – believe it or not – 1807? They're curating a special tour of the section for Ward 6 residents to learn all about it. And thanks to our friends at Fulcrum Residential, we'll have a light reception to follow!

- Cake Picnic <[link removed]>!: 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Garfield Park (1-299 South Carolina Ave. SE)
We're so excited about this event. Enjoy delicious cake with your neighbors in the park! It's simple: Sign up to bring a cake of your choosing (bake, buy, or convince a loved one to make one), BYO plate and utensils, and eat your heart out. Thanks to our event partner, Friends of Garfield Park!

Tuesday, July 29

- Give Back to Your Neighbors <[link removed]>: 6 to 8 p.m. at DC Central Kitchen (2121 1st St. SW)
Work alongside DC Central Kitchen staff and our team to help cut, chop, peel, and prep fresh produce that goes into balanced meals for the community. Limited to 25 volunteers.

- Two Girls Ward 6 Trivia <[link removed]>: 7 to 9 p.m. at Union Pub (201 Massachusetts Ave. NE)
We're joining Two Girls Trivia for their weekly night at Union Pub! Impress your friends at this special Ward 6-themed edition.

Wednesday, July 30

- Explore Some Local History <[link removed]>: Noon to 2 p.m. at the Capital Jewish Museum (575 3rd St. NW)
Free admission for Ward 6 neighbors to the Museum's special exhibition "LGBT Jews in the Federal City <[link removed]>"!

- Wine & Words <[link removed]>: 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Solid State Books (600 H St. NE)
No reading ahead of time required for this happy hour to talk about your favorite summer reads (bonus points for local author recs.) Support your local, indie bookstore, grab a glass of whatever you prefer, and mingle!

Thursday, July 31

- Crafternoon <[link removed]>: 4 to 5 p.m. at the Northeast Neighborhood Library (330 7th St. NE)
Feeling creative? Children ages 3 to 10 are welcome to the second-floor reading room for crafts with Charles and the team.

- Office Hours, DC Music Edition <[link removed]>: 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Spin Time Records <[link removed]> (613 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Suite 2)
Check out Eastern Market's newest record store, browse and listen to specially-curated DC tunes (go-go and reggae fans, looking at you), and say hi to Charles. Note that the shop is on the second floor, which requires being able to walk up one flight of stairs.

Friday, Aug. 1

- Meet the DC United Players <[link removed]>: 6 to 9 p.m. at Audi Field (100 Potomac Ave. SW)
We're so excited to be able to offer this event this Ward 6 Week. Get a special tour of the stadium where DC United and Washington Spirit play (and the DC Defenders) AND meet some of the DC United team! Spaces are limited, and spots will be drawn randomly as we get closer to the event, so get your name in!

Saturday, Aug. 2

- Lemonade Stand Contest <[link removed]>: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout Capitol Hill
This is our third-annual Capitol Hill "Lemonade for a Cause" lemonade stand contest, in partnership with The Hill is Home! Hill families can register to set up decorated lemonade stands, we'll publish a map of the stands for neighbors, and Councilmember Allen will stop by to judge the best stand. Stand hosts are encouraged to donate their proceeds to a Ward 6 charity of their choice. The winning stand gets fame, glory, and Nats tickets!

- N-A-T-S Nats Nats Nats! <[link removed]>: 4:05 p.m. at Nationals Park (1500 South Capitol St. SE)
Let's close out Ward 6 Week by cheering on the Washington Nationals as they play the Milwaukee Brewers! We've got tickets for 300 of our closest (Ward 6 resident) friends.

See you around the neighborhood for the best Ward 6 Week yet!

Charles Allen
