Recommendations Issued for First-in-Human Pig Kidney Transplant Trials Ethical and policy challenges
A multisite research team including The Hastings Center for Bioethics has issued ethical and policy recommendations for first-in-human clinical trials involving the transplantation of pig kidneys into humans. The recommendations are the culmination of a four-year study funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences of the National Institutes of Health and led by Hastings senior research scholar Karen J. Maschke, Michael K. Gusmano of Lehigh University, and Elisa J. Gordon of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Learn more.

Regulating AI Therapy Chatbots Any attempt "must balance access with risk"
AI therapy chatbots and other digital mental health tools could revolutionize mental health care delivery, potentially overcoming the barriers that millions of people face in getting the care they need. But these tools also raise concerns about data privacy, bias, and other issues. Approaches to regulation must “balance access with risk,” concludes a new article in the Hastings Center Report, which proposes three criteria for evaluating regulatory schemes. Read the article.
