Gun violence uniquely impacts Black and Brown communities nationwide. And this violence doesn’t just happen randomly — it’s driven by many factors like unfettered access to firearms, harmful policy decisions that result in housing segregation, unequal law enforcement, and so much more.
The late Rep. John Lewis, who passed away five years ago next week, knew these driving factors all too well — and it’s in his honor that we’re hosting a teach-in to examine how systemic racism drives and sustains the crisis of gun violence in communities of color nationwide.
You’ll hear from Rachelle Hunley, Brady's Senior Director of Strategic Engagement, and Aalayah Eastmond, a gun violence survivor and Cultural Community Engagement Manager at Brady. Together, we’ll uncover the structural forces behind gun violence, explore how President Trump’s policies and funding cuts have exacerbated this violence, and more.
It’s time to get in some “good trouble," just like Rep. Lewis would want, John. So, please save your spot for our training session on Wednesday, July 16, at 12:30 p.m. ET.
