Friend,
After I introduced the VISIBLE Act yesterday, Donald Trump said that Cory Booker and I “wouldn’t be saying that if they didn’t hate our country.”
Let me be clear: I love this country and believe its values are worth fighting for.
In a democracy, no one should have to guess if they’re being handcuffed by real law enforcement or armed imposters.
I introduced this bill to ban ICE and DHS agents from wearing masks to hide their identity, and requiring them to publicly display their agency and name or badge number.
ICE and DHS’s habit of using unidentified and plainclothes officers as well as using masks or balaclavas to hide their identities only escalates tensions and shields federal agents from basic accountability.
If all state and local law enforcement in California can do their jobs with transparency, then so can ICE.
No more masks. No more secrecy. No more rogue ICE operations.
Please add your name as a supporter of the VISIBLE Act if you agree.
