Politics in a Nutshell
NABTU STATEMENT ON THE U.S. SENATE REPUBLICAN PROPOSED “ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” - NABTU [[link removed]]
NABTU, North America’s Building Trades Unions, has called the budget bill “the biggest job-killing bill in the history of this country.” The new Republican law threatens an estimated 1.75 million construction jobs, and puts us on the back foot when it comes to advancing our energy projects. NABTU is also very clear on why they believe their industry’s jobs are being threatened; “to make room for more tax breaks for the wealthiest corporations and individuals in America.”
Senate Republican tax bill could crush wind and solar power, advocates say | AP News [[link removed]]
Republicans were already going to end the clean energy tax credits that Iowa and other states depend on, but now it seems they’ve dealt a death blow to our energy industry entirely. Language in the law creates new taxes for clean energy operations and businesses, punishing an industry we need to meet rising energy demands. This will hurt Americans’ pocketbooks with higher electricity bills, and hurt the industry workers whose former jobs helped lower them.

Representatives on the Record
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (202) 225-6576
Why did Rep. Miller-Meeks vote ‘Yes’ on the Big, Ugly, Lousy Law? The Medicaid cuts she voted for are the largest in history, is she at all concerned for the thousands of her constituents that could lose their Medicaid? What about the clean energy tax credits that Republicans stripped from the bill? How is she going to help her constituents when their electricity bills go up because of their removal? Why is she fighting in Congress for tax cuts for the rich but not for the constituents that elected her?
Representative Ashley Hinson (202) 225-2911

Note From the Chair
Hey folks! Rita Hart here.
Congress has passed Trump’s BULL (Big, Ugly, Lousy Law) cementing it as one of the worst pieces of legislation our country has ever seen. It passed thanks to the cowardice of Republicans who clearly recognized its problems [[link removed]] , but chose to vote ‘Yes’ anyway out of fear of retribution from Trump and in exchange for protection for their state from the bill’s most egregious effects. The extent of their cowardice only matches the depth of their cruelty.
Hundreds of billions cut from Medicaid and SNAP. Iowa’s clean energy tax credits erased. Higher electricity costs, closed hospitals, and families without food and health insurance on the horizon. This bill contains nothing but reckless harm for Iowa and the country as a whole.
It’s important to remember that Republicans know the damage their bill will do, but they’re willing to carry it through in order to give tax breaks to the millionaires and billionaires who they view as their real constituents. Taking from the poor and giving to the rich is the core philosophy behind this bill’s construction, and the people of Iowa will suffer for it.
Our struggle to stop this bill has failed, despite protests across the nation and every single Democratic member of Congress voting ‘No’. Now is the time to let our Republican leaders know that we will not let them forget their betrayal. Call your representatives, let them know what you think about cuts to your friends’ and family’s healthcare. You can also join upcoming protests and rallies. You can find them on our calendar by clicking here [[link removed]] , and you can also sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Democratic Party by clicking here [[link removed]] .
We can only resist Trump and his cronies if we keep working together. I appreciate your continued involvement and support of the Iowa Democratic Party.
Sincerely,
Rita Hart
