As a proud daughter of an Army Vietnam Era Veteran who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, my personal life has been centered around the Veteran experience. My career at the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) has provided meaning and purpose and is in alignment with my personal commitment to ensuring our Veterans and seniors receive high quality healthcare.
Currently, I serve as the Chief Healthcare Operating Officer – overseeing the operations of our eight state Veterans Homes and serving as a member of the Healthcare Executive Team. I am so fortunate to have served at MDVA since 2017.
I started my career as a social worker in long-term care for a nursing home in east St. Paul. As a transplant from rural Montana, and a newly licensed social worker, I was so eager to make a difference. Many great experiences followed: an opportunity to obtain my master’s degree, a clinical leader role in a community based mental health agency, and then a shift to Veterans healthcare--all with a desire to make a difference and serve those who served.
Over the past eight years, I have had the great opportunity to lead our healthcare division through many changes and serve as the stable leader for the continuity of operations. Here’s what I know and admire about our agency:
- Our mission-driven focus
- Stories of our Veterans
- Commitment to quality
- Our dedicated staff
I encourage anyone interested in a meaningful career to stop into one of our Veterans Homes. You could begin your career as a young adult eager to make a difference and connect with a community and professionally develop for a long career in aging services. Our seniors and their families need you!
