Pittsburgh Public Schools board President Gene Walker started working in education in 2008, hired by the new Pittsburgh Promise to help expand college access for city kids

Though his degree is in business and accounting, Walker is still in education 17 years later. And his re-election by just five votes in the May primary means he will play a key role in shaping the school consolidation plan that would transform the district forever
