Help dismantle drug war-fueled policing.
Drug Policy Alliance
Friend,

This week the Senate is rushing to vote on the Justice Act, an inadequate policing bill that does nothing to hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct.

Urge your Senators to oppose the Justice Act and instead work toward real reform that would end drug war-fueled police militarization.

The Justice Act is simply more studies, reports and commissions that look good on paper. Instead of banning the use of no-knock warrants, the kind that led to the death of Breonna Taylor in her bed, it only requires that law enforcement report on their use. It does not prohibit chokeholds, like the ones that killed George Floyd. And it dedicates billions of new dollars to law enforcement and problematic programs that fuel the drug war and militarized policing.

It fails to hold police accountable or counter the systemic racism and injustices that brought us to this moment.

Instead of trying to push this ineffective bill through, tell the Senate to turn their attention to improving the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This legislation would ban no-knock warrants for drug cases, restrict programs giving military equipment to local police departments, prohibit chokeholds, document police misconduct and use-of-force, and help end racial profiling.

We’re working to strengthen the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to address the militarization practices that are disproportionately used against people of color in drug investigations.

Congress can do it by also banning quick-knock raids, ending programs that allow militarized policing, and shifting funding for the drug war and law enforcement to community resources and services.

It’s time for federal action to dismantle drug war-fueled policing. Unless Congress acts on real reform, Black and Brown people will continue to suffer at the hands of police brutality.

Demand that your Senators oppose the Justice Act and instead support comprehensive reform.

  Sincerely,

Queen Adesuyi
