Hi John,

You might be curious about our model… and should be!

Free Grassroots Partnerships: As a nonprofit dedicated to building power for the progressive movement, we don't have clients -- we have partners. Individuals and small groups can send emails, launch petitions, build fundraisers, download reports, and more… for free! Note: You won’t be able to bulk upload a list of supporters or create page wrappers. Get started with a free partnership here.

Movement, Network & Enterprise Partnerships: We’re a nonprofit and want our toolset to be accessible to the entire progressive movement. Partners typically contribute between a third to a half of what they would be paying for-profit vendors. We charge at cost. Since our largest expense is sending email, we determine partner contributions based on monthly email volume. When your organization becomes a paid partner, you are paying to use the system. You’ll also get access to new features, as we roll them out. Learn more about paid partnerships here.

Platform Development Committee: New features are determined by our Platform Development Committee (PDC). PDC members cover the substantial cost of a dedicated product manager and our engineering team. In this way, the PDC on its own ensures business continuity. Without any other money coming in, Action Network would be a bare-bones operation. Members of the PDC decide which features we build, on an annual basis. Action Network cannot build anything without their say-so, giving them real ownership over the technical direction of their tools. The PDC works off of consensus. Please email me if your organization is interested in joining the PDC.

Action Network is supremely disruptive to the progressive tech space because we have used a consensus-based model to create a tool that works without consultants, high fees, or venture capital.

In Solidarity,
Rose Espinola
Director of Partner Development
