Leftist Hypocrisy: Protesting Kings While Crowning Their Own

This week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court reshaped the balance of power in Wisconsin, stripping the State Legislature of its long-held ability to block administrative rules.

In a 4-3 decision, the court ruled that statutes granting the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) such authority violate the Wisconsin Constitution.

This landmark ruling stems from challenges brought by Governor Tony Evers, specifically targeting JCRAR's actions to block commercial building codes and suspend a rule that banned conversion therapy. For decades, lawmakers have used this power to at least temporarily halt agency regulations, but no more.

WILL has been a leading advocate for the separation of powers, and opposes multiple SCOWIS rulings and actions by Governor Evers that have wrongfully cemented power within the Executive Branch, and denied the duly elected legislature their rightful oversight.

WILL President and General Counsel, Rick Esenberg, discussed the ruling and its future implications on The Jay Weber Show.

Closing the Gap: A Fairer Future for Wisconsin Schools?

This break-down shows how the recent state budget, despite being a compromise, marks a significant step towards equalizing funding for private, charter, and traditional public schools.

New Challenge to Congressional Maps

Wisconsin's congressional map aren't out of the woods quite yet. Just weeks, after the Wisconsin Supreme Court declined two challenges seeking to overturn Wisconsin's congressional maps, the maps are facing yet another lawsuit.

The new lawsuit, brought by The Wisconsin Business Leaders for Democracy, argue the maps are unconstitutional due to anti-competitive gerrymandering. This case is taking a different path than the two previous, rejected challenges by being filed in a lower court rather than directly with the state Supreme Court.
