Friends,

The events over the last few weeks have shined a light on the deeply rooted systemic racism Black Americans face every day.

Four hundred years of slavery, racism, and inequality has created institutionalized racism in schools, hospitals, the economy, and our criminal justice system. We have a long way to go in the fight for equity, but reforming our police departments and criminal justice system is a good place to start.

For too long, Black communities have faced racism and brutality from the system that's supposed to serve and protect every American. We need to take action before another life is lost.

Thanks to the voices and actions of people across the nation, we are beginning to see real steps taken to address this issue, but it is time for a national standard. That's why I am proud to be a co-sponsor of the House's Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

This bill takes important steps towards ensuring accountability and change. If passed, it would:

- Establish a National Police Misconduct Registry,
- Ban the use of chokeholds,
- Make lynching a federal crime,
- Ban no-knock warrants for drug-related offenses,
- Mandate racial bias training,
- Ensure transparency and accountability.

While this bill won't fix the systemic inequities facing the Black community, it is a step in the right direction toward justice and accountability. Add your name to join me in supporting the Justice in Policing Act of 2020.

Thanks,

Kim
