Iowa’s governor just signed legislation allowing poll workers to challenge a voter's citizenship status, based on nothing more than suspicion.

Let us be clear: this law is a green light for racial profiling and voter intimidation. It empowers partisan poll workers to harass naturalized citizens, immigrants, and anyone they “think” shouldn’t be voting.

And this isn’t isolated. Similar efforts are cropping up in other states, encouraged by Trump’s executive orders and MAGA-led legislatures across the country.

Democratic Secretaries of State are the last firewall to stop this kind of overreach, protect voters’ rights, and make sure these laws don’t spread any further.
