   John,
Donald Trump has promised to shut down FEMA at the end of this year’s
   hurricane season.^1
And he isn’t budging, despite the devastating flash floods in Central
Texas over the weekend that offered a heart-stopping reminder of why we
   need a fully-funded disaster response agency.^2

   burdens states, experts warn
Shutting down FEMA is short-sighted and will cost lives. We’re mobilizing
people across the country to demand Congress step in and stop this before
it’s too late. [ [link removed] ]Tell Congress: Don’t let Trump get rid of FEMA.

FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is one of the few lifelines
people have when disasters strike. They deliver emergency aid, shelter,
and resources in the wake of natural disasters — and just this week, they
deployed first responders to devastated communities in Central Texas.
Trump had already slashed FEMA’s grants long before the floods, leaving
states short by billions of dollars in cancelled disaster funds. He also
appointed a deeply unqualified head of FEMA who didn’t even know what
   hurricane season was.^3
Now, Trump plans to “phase out” the agency completely.
Congress needs to get serious — this is a matter of life and death.
Climate-fueled disasters such as floods, fires, hurricanes and more are
all becoming more frequent and more deadly. Communities across the country
   — especially low-income and frontline communities — depend on FEMA’s
support to survive and recover from these disasters.
We can’t afford to play politics with people’s lives. Congress needs to
hear loud and clear that the public won’t stand by while disaster relief
   is dismantled.
