PA Representative Joe Webster banner image

Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. This week I have updates regarding a flash flood warning in our area, our Collegeville Police Department receiving body cameras, my Summer Collection Drive and upcoming Shred Event, bills passed and signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro and more!

Remember to scroll down to the community events section to find out what’s happening in the district and across Montgomery County!

As always, I hope you find the information below useful.

Important Updates/Highlights

Flash Flood Warning for Wednesday!

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the upstream reaches of the Perkiomen Creek in Berks, Lehigh and Bucks County on Wednesday. The Perkiomen Creek is already high and brown indicating that more heavy rain upstream could also lead to flooding conditions in the Lower Perkiomen Creek.

Like most regions with a flashy creek, we have no early warning sirens, only cell phone alerts to those who have signed up. (Check your county’s emergency alert systems for guidance on signing up for weather alerts. Ready Montco, Ready Bucks, Berks Alert, Lehigh Local weather reports)

When the alerts happen, take immediate action to ensure you and your family’s safety. Move to higher ground, do not drive through flood waters, and contact neighbors to help ensure other’s safety. Six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock an adult off their feet. Less than 2 feet of flood water can sweep away an SUV or truck. Flood waters contain dangerous debris and contaminants. The catchphrase is “Turn around, Don’t drown!”

We have seen the devastation that floods can wreak, and no one wants to see lives lost to flood waters. So, stay alert. Sign up for the emergency alerts and be prepared to evacuate, if needed. Gas up the car, keep the keys handy, and park where you can get out fast. Flash floods occur rapidly and can be caused by heavy rains far from where you live.

Be smart, be prepared, be safe!

Summer Collection Drive

Friends, my 2025 Summer Collection Drive is live now through August 15, and we’re in need of more donations! We're collecting canned foods, paper products, personal care items, school supplies for the fall and more for St. James Outreach House, Daily Bread Community Food Pantry and Spring-Ford Project Outreach. Please take a look at the list on the graphic for some of the most needed items.

Stay tuned for more donation drop off locations around the district!

Scam Alert

Neighbors, please be on the lookout for a recent email scam that has been targeting older Pennsylvanians. Officials said the reported scam involved scammers impersonating a Commonwealth employee and requesting money be sent through a licensed financial institution in order to receive a fake inheritance.

Shred Event

We're a couple weeks away from my annual Shred Event with state Rep. Matt Bradford. Stop by on Saturday, July 26, at Norristown Area High School from 9 a.m. to noon (or until the trucks are full) to dispose of any sensitive documents or important information.

This is a paper-only shred event with a limit of two boxes per household. No electronics or trash are permitted, and any boxes or bags will be returned to you after materials are shredded.

If you have any questions, please reach out to my office at 484-200-8263.

Collegeville Police Department Body Cameras

I’m glad to announce that through a previously awarded grant I was proud to assist on, officers within the Collegeville Borough Police Department have started wearing upgraded body cameras.

This essential upgrade for our police department will help keep both our community and officers safe while prioritizing clarity.

What I’ve Been Up To

Skippack Fourth of July Celebration

I’m grateful that Skippack Township continues to welcome me back for its 4th of July celebration each year! Last week, I was glad to walk alongside Leader Bradford and his team during the parade, and it was a pleasure seeing neighboring-township supervisors Sarah Charles and Terri Neufeglise of Lower Providence.

Legislative Updates

This week in the House, we passed state Rep. Roni Green’s House Bill 1358 and state Rep. Liz Hanbidge’s HB 1505, both of which I was proud to co-sponsor. Each bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

H.B. 1358 (109-94) requires that hotel employers provide panic button devices to employees servicing guest rooms, increasing the safety and security for our hotel workers in Pennsylvania.

Read more about the bill by clicking here.

H.B. 1505 (202-1) amends the Public School Code to clarify that intermediate units (IUs) are eligible to receive Pre-K Counts grants. While IUs currently receive Pre-K Counts grants due to eligibility as a Head Start program, if the federal government were to make cuts to the Head Start program, they would be deemed ineligible. This bill ensures access to these programs continues regardless of any potential cuts made by the federal government.

Observances

Disability Pride Month – July

Disability Pride Month recognizes and celebrates those with disabilities, their triumphs, and reinforces our nonstop effort to fight against stigmas and break down barriers. As an ally and in my capacity as a state representative, one of my highest priorities is securing additional funds in our state budget for the disabled community and its professional workers, and supporting legislative efforts that offer services, promote fairness and eliminate any unnecessary struggles.

This session, I’m sponsoring bills that help with accessibility and transitional planning, such as temporary parking placards and a requirement for classroom-to-workplace coordinators in school districts. To reach a more inclusive future, it’s imperative that we work together to ensure all voices are heard and valued.
