Thank you for your continued support to protect funding for Healthy Homes. As you probably know by now, the Mayor's proposed budget cuts millions of dollars from key climate and environmental programs. The council started to reverse some of those cuts, but only was able to restore 3 of 71 million dollars for SETF funding. This funding was established in 2018 with a small tax to our electric and gas bills. The mayor wants to use it to pay DC's electric bills. How did DC handle it before 2018?

Now is a key moment to call one person in particular: Chairman Mendelson. Mendelson has the sole ability to move money around at the stage of the budget process. Later, the full council will vote on his proposal so each councilmember is ultimately an important vote/decision maker. But between now and Monday, July 14th (the day of the first budget vote), Mendelson is a key figure.

Our goal is to create pressure on him around a key issue that need more funding:

  • More funding to the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund. This funds the Healthy Homes Act which electrifies low and middle income homes. Building electrification is one of CCL's key priorities.

Please call Chairman Mendelson and ask him to add more funding to the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund. You can also call in the evening and leave a voicemail. His number is (202) 724-8032
