The state budget includes $732 million in new funding to address water contamination

Last week, Governor Evers signed the state budget into law and delivered a big win for Wisconsinites impacted by unsafe drinking water. Thanks to your emails, petition signatures, postcards, and in-person meetings, we now have $732 million in new funding to address water contamination!!!

This funding is much needed for people around the state who still lack access to clean water, due to lead, nitrate, and PFAS. As we do this work, those communities are always front and center in my mind.

Now we can start to make meaningful change. In the coming months, we’ll be working closely with our partners around the state to make additional progress on protecting our drinking water – specifically by fighting to pass protections for private well owners, and preventing contamination from getting into our environment. Stay tuned for more ways to get involved and have an impact.

This water funding is a huge – and necessary – win for our state, but unfortunately many of our other policy asks including clean energy planning, Knowles-Nelson funding, addressing substance abuse, and more did not make it into the state budget. But keep up with our emails as we update you with other ways we plan to move these much-needed initiatives forward.
