Dear John,
When democracy fails, it's the poorest and most vulnerable who suffer first. And suffer the most.
We’re seeing that right now:
✂️ Benefits for disabled people are being slashed - essential support taken away from those who need it most.
👶 Child poverty is on the rise - more families than ever struggling to afford the basics and kids being left behind before they even have a chance.
🏚️ Destitution is surging - 3.8 million people in the UK are now living without the essentials, a number that’s doubled in just seven years.
These are not just statistics. They’re signs that our democratic systems are failing to protect those most in need.
Governments make promises to tackle poverty, but when they fail, they face no real consequences.
We believe democracy only works when it has accountability at its core…when it protects everyone equally. That’s why we’re supporting The Big Issue’s Poverty Zero campaign.
They’re calling for a new law that would force governments to set legally binding poverty reduction targets, like Net Zero for climate. If a government’s plan falls short, the courts could require them to do better. No more empty promises. Just real accountability.
We’re proud to support this campaign. Now we’re asking you to add your voice too.
