As an emergency physician and your state representative, I recently took to the Capitol rotunda to sound the alarm on what I call the “Big Bad Bill” — legislation that would be nothing short of disastrous for healthcare in Pennsylvania. I spoke not just as a policymaker, but also, and more importantly, as an ER Doc, treating patients facing life-or-death situations every single day. I don’t have time for ideology when I’m saving lives - and we don’t have room for it in our healthcare system.

This bill will gut emergency care and healthcare overall — cutting off access for rural communities, overwhelming emergency departments, and putting even more strain on the hospitals and health professionals like me who care for our most vulnerable.

I know what’s at stake. I’ve seen what happens when patients delay care because they can’t afford it, or when hospitals don’t have the staff or resources to respond in time. That’s why I stood up. But I can’t fight this battle alone—I need your help.

This bill will cause more than 300,000 Pennsylvanians to lose their Medicaid coverage, when they should be eligible, and 200,000 Pennsylvanians to lose insurance through the Affordable Care Act. We need more access to healthcare in Pennsylvania - not less. That’s what I will always fight for.
