Dear Friend,
We feel and hear your concern this week!! Republican leadership in
Congress folded under the pressure from Trump and their billionaire donors
to pass (by the closest of votes) one of the most harmful budget bills in
history, which is going to result in 17 million people losing their
healthcare. The Republicans’ bill also makes a massive shift of public
school funding to private school vouchers. [ [link removed] ]And now, under Trump’s
order, the Department of Education is refusing to release billions in
much-needed funds that Congress already granted to schools! Outrageous!
Through it all, one thing is clear: Our voices have been making a
difference. The fact that the votes were so close is no accident. [ [link removed] ]Our
persistence is essential. And our voices are STILL needed more than ever.
[ [link removed] ]The fights for our kids are far from over. Across the country, right
now, school districts are sounding the alarm: Billions of dollars in
federal funding for public K-12 education are being withheld by the U.S.
Department of Education, and the impact is devastating.
In fact, more than $6.8 billion in essential K-12 education funds,
approved by Congress, are sitting in limbo. The Trump administration has
refused to release these funds, halting critical programs and stalling
urgent needs in public schools across the nation, weeks away from the new
school year starting. [1]
Here’s what this funding freeze is doing to our schools:
* Districts have delayed hiring teachers and counselors needed to reduce
overcrowded classrooms.
* Funding for student mental health services is stalled.
* Special education programs could go on hold due to a lack of
resources.
* Rural and underserved districts are being hit hardest, and many can’t
even make basic upgrades or buy essential materials.

This isn't just budget red tape; it’s a direct attack on public education,
our children’s future, and the separation of governmental powers. And it’s
happening without any public explanation, hearings, or transparency. We
need Congress to reclaim its “power of the purse” and act now.
[ [link removed] ]Demand that Congress immediately require the U.S. Department of
Education to release the billions in frozen K-12 funds!
If we don’t speak up, our schools will continue to be under-resourced
while political games are played behind closed doors. As Moms, dads, and
caregivers, our voices are powerful. Together, we can break this funding
freeze and restore critical funding to our schools.
In solidarity,
Beatriz, Ruth, Kristin, and the entire MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team

and mental health professionals for public schools?
