SUMMER BREAK
By Lisa Desjardins @LisaDNews
Correspondent

Happy summer, everyone. The past few weeks have been extraordinary, with a historically large bill racing through Congress, while the Trump administration wrestles with crises at home and abroad

Our team at Here's the Deal is taking a short breather this week to recover and reflect.

We want to hear from you: What are your questions about the big bill that just got signed into law — or about what else is ahead for Congress? Send them to [email protected]. We aim to use them to guide our coverage in this second half of 2025.

Stay safe and cool.

4 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ‘TRUMP ACCOUNTS’ FOR KIDS

You may have heard about “Trump accounts.” The massive tax and spending bill signed by President Donald Trump on July 4 includes the creation of investment accounts for children.

Babies born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, are included in the initial pilot program, which includes a $1,000 deposit from the U.S. government. The goal is to introduce more Americans to investing and to help build small reserves of wealth for children and their families.

The initiative has bipartisan backing and is generally supported by economists and other researchers. Watch the video above for a look at how these accounts work and what experts say about their benefits and drawbacks.

THIS WEEK’S TRIVIA QUESTION
By Kyle Midura
Politics Producer

In the spirit of rest and summer fun, we turn to a television classic for this week’s trivia.

Our question: What beloved fictional character decides to run for governor of their home state on July 7, 2025?

Send your answers to [email protected] or tweet using #PoliticsTrivia. The first correct answers will earn a shout-out next week.

Last week, we asked: Which president was born on July 4?

The answer: Calvin Coolidge.

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States, was born on July 4, 1872, making him the only American president born on Independence Day. Two other presidents, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, died on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Congratulations to our winners: John Cleveland and Brenda Radford!

Thank you all for reading and watching. We’ll drop into your inbox next week.
