If these lies about vote-by-mail are allowed to penetrate the news – our democracy is seriously at risk.

If things continue this way, November’s election could be an unprecedented disaster, John.

Trump is once again spreading lies about vote-by-mail and is already calling the election “rigged.”

If these lies about vote-by-mail are allowed to penetrate the news and spread online – our democracy is seriously at risk. Twitter flagged two of Trump’s previous vote-by-mail tweets for misinformation, but it’s clear that Trump didn’t get the message.

This morning he posted:

Twitter must do more, John. Will you sign our urgent petition calling on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to take down this post and permanently suspend Trump’s Twitter?

Legal experts warn that Trump is setting the stage to deny the results of the November election and could refuse to concede – especially if the results are close.1 We’re already seeing thousands of people online repeating Trump’s claims and continuing the spread of misinformation.

That’s what makes this fight so much bigger than a handful of tweets. It is crucial that our norms around democracy and voting are based on facts (and facts alone). Not what Trump’s thinks or what’s convenient for him to claim as the reason he loses in November.

The only option is for Twitter to suspend his account and set a clear precedent that blatant lies on social media are not allowed to fester and be used as facts.

We know that our pressure is working – momentum is on our side. Twitter has already changed some of its policies in response to the outcry across the country.

Last month, Twitter added a fact-check warning for the first time on two of Trump’s false tweets about mail-in ballots, urging people to “get the facts” and linking to more information. This was a huge step following years of pressure on Twitter, but it’s not enough.

If enough people speak out, we can pressure Twitter to act and help protect our democracy during this crucial election. Send a message to Jack Dorsey now to flag this tweet and end Trump’s misinformation agenda on Twitter.

Thank you for signing.
